The E 05 or E 5 is part of the United Nations international E-road network. It is the westernmost north-south "reference road", running from Greenock, Scotland south through France to Algeciras, Spain.1

The E 05 follows the route Greenock - Paisley - Govan - Glasgow - Gretna - Carlisle - Penrith - Preston - Warrington - Liverpool - Birmingham - Newbury - Southampton - Le Havre - Paris - Orléans - Tours - Poitiers - Bordeaux - San Sebastián - Burgos - Madrid - Córdoba - Sevilla - Cádiz - Algeciras

Like all other E-roads, the E 05 is not signed or recognised in the United Kingdom. It follows the following roads:

The E 05 has a gap at the English Channel between Southampton and Le Havre, France. There is no direct ferry link, but a ferry from nearby Portsmouth connects to Le Havre.
