"Evolution" is the first single from Korn's untitled album. It is one of the four tracks in which Brooks Wackerman of Bad Religion performed drumming duties.citation needed
The song was featured in Warren Miller's 2007 ski film Playground.
The music video was directed by Dave Meyers, who filmed the band's previous videos ("Did My Time" and "Twisted Transistor"). The video features Korn's temporary live drummer Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls), and discusses the topic of devolution in a pseudo-scientific, comical fashion.
It is a part of Korn’s fake trailer for a film called Devolution: Nature’s U-Turn, which claims that mankind is quickly devolving back into a more primitive form, and that the government tries to withhold this information from the public. [1]
Gerald Casale of the New Wave music group Devo, which has satirically portrayed the devolution theme since its conception, lashed out at Jonathan Davis on the devo.com website writing "We denounce this as imposters playing with fire". [2]
The video was first shown to Canadian fans on Much MOD, on July 23, 2007. During that time, Korn was present in the MuchMusic Headquarters in Toronto, a day before their Family Values 2007 Toronto concert. The video depicts the resemblance between humans and chimpanzees, and shows the band performing the song in a dark red environment, which is later shown to be a chimpanzee's brain. On the same day, the video was featured as MTV2's "Unleashed" video, and premiered on MTV's Total Request Live the following day.
