Archie Comics is an American comic book publisher based in Mamaroneck, New York. The company was originally known as MLJ comics (MLJ being the first initials of its founders), which was best known for its superhero comics featuring The Shield. After seeing the popularity of Archie, the company changed its name to Archie Comics and focused more on the Archie character and his friends.
Betty and Veronica is a comic book published by Archie Comics focusing on "best friends and worst enemies" Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge, both girlfriends of Archie Andrews. These three characters and Jughead Jones are the four main characters of this long-running series of comics. The series has several spin-offs with similar titles. Both Betty and Veronica are permanently 17 years old. Typical stories feature the two high school girls as they hang out with each other, shop, and fight for Archie's affections. Together the pair form the female part of the classic love triangle which has been a staple of the comic series since 1942.
Betty first appeared in Pep Comics #22, also the first appearance of both Archie and Jughead. Veronica made her debut a few months later, in Pep #26, as an immediate rival to Betty for Archie's affections.
Archie Comics has announced that the official 65th anniversary issue will be Archie's Double Digest #236. Among other things, it will include a complete reprint of the entire Archie Comics #1 (which recently went for $1330 on eBay), as well as the first Archie story. Read more here.
