The Thames-Coromandel District Council in the North Island of New Zealand is seated in the town of Thames. It is located in the region around the Firth of Thames and Coromandel Peninsula, to the southeast of Auckland.

Population

The district has a population of 26,800 at the June 2008 estimate.1 From the 2006 census 3,768 live in Whitianga, 1,476 in Coromandel, and 3,555 in Whangamata.

Local Government

The Thames-Coromandel District Council was formed from the amalgamation of the former Thames and Coromandel County Councils.
