Wang Ling (200-250) was an officer serving under the Kingdom of Wei during the Three Kingdoms Period of China.
Wang Ling fled to countryside after Wang Yun, his uncle, was executed for his plot in Lü Bu's assassination of Dong Zhuo. Later he was nominated as Xiaolian and become the Grand Administrator (太守) of Zhongshan (中山). His excellent public service was noticed by chancellor Cao Cao, who moved him into his office.
In Cao Cao's army, Wang Ling engaged in several battles with Eastern Wu. As the Inspector (刺史) of Yanzhou (兖州), he attacked Sun Quan under Zhang Liao. His victory led to his promption to General Jianwu (建武将军). In another battle against Eastern Wu, he rescued the besieged Cao Xiu. He was promoted to the General of Chariots and Cavalry (车骑将军) after a major victory against Quan Cong.
In the second year of Cao Fang's reign, Wang Ling was the Minister of Works (司空) and his nephew Linghu Yu (令狐愚) became the Inspector of Yanzhou. After Sima Yi won the power struggle with Cao Shuang, Wang Ling felt the emperor was too young to rule, and staged a secret plan of replacing emperor Cao Fang with his uncle Cao Biao. However, Linghu Yu did not survive long enough to carry out the plan, and died of illness. After the plan was leaked, Sima Yi led an army to Wang before he can defend. After Wang surrendered to Sima, he was forced suicide, and family members of Wang Ling and his associates were sentenced family annihilation.
