Introduction

The WikiProject China is a group dedicated to improve all of Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to China. Our goal is to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of China by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles, to serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to China in Wikipedia as well as providing guidelines and recommendations. The scope of this project includes all topics related to China, with some separate project areas specified in the Workgroups.

For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

Participation

Feel free to add your name to the list of WikiProject China participants. You may also want to add the {{User WikiProject China}} userbox to your userpage.

Departments

Members who do the meta work may enlist in various departments. Tasks include working on the project, maintaining the project pages and related portals, assessing articles, participating in peer reviews, managing the consensus within the project. The following is a list of departments within the WikiProject. WikiProject Members can contribute content as a member of Workgroups as well.

Assessment

The assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's China-related articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WPCHINA}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.

Cartography

The cartography department aims to create a collection of high-quality maps for use in China-related articles. The department gathers existing public domain and free-license maps as well as creating new ones from other materials where no suitable maps can be found. All project members are welcome to request additional maps that may be needed for particular articles from the department.

Collaboration

The Chinese Collaboration of the Week is currently inactive. Users are welcomed to revive the page.

The Chinese Collaboration of the week seeks to identify particular articles that would benefit from a significant collaborative effort. Every week, a single article is selected as the focus, and the project attempts to improve it, potentially to featured article standards.

Any articles dealing with some aspect of China (except for current featured articles and featured article candidates) are eligible, and everyone is invited to nominate articles.

Peer review

The peer review department conducts peer reviews of China-related articles on request; this helps to obtain ideas for further improvement by having contributors who may not have previously worked on particular articles examine them. Project members are invited to submit articles to the department in lieu of using the generic peer review process.

Translation

The translation department of the Chinese WikiProject aims to utilize high-quality non-English material related to China for the goals of the project. This includes both translating articles from and to other-language Wikipedias as well as assisting contributors with non-English sources.

The Zhonghua Barnstar of Merit

Zhonghua Barnstar of Merit
This award is given to those who have made significant contributions to articles that are part of Wikipedia:WikiProject China.

Adopt an article

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
